Well, the Koganans may have a somewhat distorted or exaggerated view on Bettina.
Like everyone else, they don't have every piece of the puzzle, and the way they fill the gaps in their minds is not always 100 % accurate.

I mean, consider how this may look like from their perspective:
Bettina's brother? Dead!
Tona Zehm? Dead! ~~Or at least MIA...~~
Tona's henchman Wendell? Dead!
Only Augustus Alexander is still rolling. (Pun very much intended.)
